What is in the Box
The sound system comes in a cardboard box. The box includes the subwoofer, a center-channel speaker, four satellite speakers, 5 wall-mounting brackets, a surface mount cradle for the center-channel speaker, owner’s manual, and online registration card.
Design and Features
Polk Audio RM705 Theater System has a 50W (100W peak) RMS sub-woofer, a center-channel speaker, and four satellite speakers. A gloss black finish gives the sound system a stunning look. The sub-woofer is 8-inch. It is downward-firing.
The speaker driver of Polk Audio RM705 Theater System is composed of polypropylene. The Reuleaux Triangular Polygon enclosures of the speakers are a handy feature of the sound system. These acoustically modeled enclosures help the satellite and center-channel speakers to reduce distortion and hold sound waves inside the speakers.
The sound system comes with wall Mount Brackets, which will help you to place the speakers anywhere in the room at your convenience. Do not worry about putting the speakers very close to your television simply thinking that the speakers may flicker the TV picture. In fact, the Magnetically Shielded speakers will not interfere with your TV picture and create any sound distortion as well.
You can turn your 5.1 Surround Sound System into a 6.1 or 7.1 Surround Sound System. Since all RM Series Speakers are identical in configuration with a little difference, you can purchase 1 or 2 more RM Series Speakers and enjoy the benefits of a 6.1 or 7.1 sound system.
“Anti-Diffraction Baffle” is a handy feature of Polk Audio RM705 Theater System, which prevents ‘Diffraction’ from having an effect on frequency response and produces maximum sound dispersion. As a result, you can clearly listen to every bit of soundtracks from your sound system. The “Composite Driver Technology” is of much importance for the Polk Audio RM705 Theater System. The technology helps the driver materials of the sound system produce flat frequency response and better imaging. As a result, with the sound system, you can enjoy soundtracks even at the maximum volume without boominess.
Performance
We had already reviewed Polk TL1600 that costs $399.95. Polk TL1600 performed well but it did not overwhelm us with an excellent Bass or loudness of music. So, naturally, we were somewhat skeptic about the performance of Polk Audio RM705 available at half the price of Polk TL1600. But Polk Audio RM705 did surprise us. In fact, both speaker systems have 100 Watts peak RMS rating. And both speaker system features 8-inch bass driver. So, no wonder Polk Audio RM705 performed very well in comparison to Polk TL1600 which costs twice as much. Polk Audio RM705 passed all the tests with good scores given its price. We played it with our Television, computer, Blu-Ray. And everywhere it outputs sound with great clarity and deep bass. The loudness was good enough for our ears. But an audiophile may find it less loud.

Conclusion
Polk Audio RM705 is one of the best sound systems under $200. The clarity, bass, and fidelity this sound system can produce are praiseworthy. It may not be as loud as you would expect it to be, still, it deserves a 4.5-star rating.
