Polk Audio TL1600 is a 5.1 surround sound system. It features a powered subwoofer, a dome tweeter center-channel speaker, and 4 dome tweeter satellite speakers. The sound system is suitable for any home entertainment configuration letting you use it with your home theater or music player, computer, or gaming devices.
What is in the Box
Polk Audio TL1600 Speaker System comes in a cardboard box. The box includes the subwoofer, four satellite speakers, one center-channel speaker, 5 detachable black cloth grilles, system diagram/warranty booklet, satellite speakers’ template, center-channel speaker template, online product registration card, and Polk Audio brochure.
Design and Features
Polk Audio TL1600’s sub-woofer is designed with a down-firing port and located in a bass-reflex enclosure. The center channel speaker and the satellite speakers are designed dome-shaped with the diaphragm. A gloss-black finish gives a stunning look to the sub-woofer, the center channel speaker, and the satellite speakers.
The subwoofer with 50W- RMS (100W peak) produces deep bass. The center-channel speaker and the satellite speakers are provided with an acoustic lens in their grilles; the lens helps the speakers disperse high-frequency response smoothly. The speakers have aperiodically-tuned rear ports, which let air flow in and out of the enclosures.
On the rear panel of the sub-woofer are audio controls, namely Volume, Low Pass Crossover, and Phase Switch. With the ‘Volume’ option, you can adjust the bass of the sub-woofer. If you cannot put the Volume in the right position, the bass will sound either muddy or boomy. The ‘Low Pass Crossover’ on the sub-woofer helps you to adjust crossover frequency from 80 Hz to 160 Hz. The ‘Phase’ option will allow you to select crossover frequency. The phase setting at which the sub-woofer produces fuller sound is the optimal phase setting.
The satellite speakers use a 21/2-inch composite long-throw woofer each. The long-throw woofer uses Dynamic Balance driver technology to produce flat frequency response.
The center-channel speaker and the satellite speakers have keyhole slots in their back. With these the slots, you can easily wall mount the speakers. Besides, there is a threaded insert with every speaker, which allows you to mount the speaker on an optional speaker bracket.
The subwoofer of TL1600 features an “Automatic Turn Off/On” option. The option lets the subwoofer automatically turn on when it gets an audio signal. The subwoofer automatically turns off 15 minutes after it has sensed no audio signal.
Performance
Polk Audio TL1600 Sound System features Dynamic Balance driver technology that outputs acoustically strong sound effects. However, its bass driver’s maximum power (RMS) is 50 Watts, which obviously is not good enough to produce powerful, and deep bass. However, if you turn the volume up, you may still enjoy hard rock or heavy metal songs. If you are into hard rock or heavy metal then it will be wise for you to consider F&D F6000 or JBL CS480BG 5.1 Sound System at a lower price.

Conclusion
Polk Audio TL1600 5.1 Speakers output clear sound that makes you feel as if the real artists are playing every instrument in front of you as long as you are not listening to Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, or Trans with heavy beats. When playing those genres of music, TL1600 doesn’t feel like an extraordinary sound system. But they are still enjoyable. But after all is said and done we are pleased to give Polk Audio TL1600 a 4-Star rating anyway.
