Boiling tap or groundwater in order to make it safe drinking water can be a hassle. You need to boil water, then cool it down, and filter it using some clean piece of cloth or other filters. The whole process takes a lot of time and work. Moreover, it increases your utility bill. This is where the Unilever Pureit Water Purifier aka Pureit Classic comes into play. It features non-electric four-stage purification process to deliver germless, purified, odorless water thereby saving time and utility bill. It also saves you from the hassle of boiling water.

What is in the box?

The box contains two removable part of the Pureit water filter: the top part, and the bottom part. They come wrapped in recyclable plastic. The top part can be disassembled into three different parts: the top cover with the Microfiber Mesh, the water container with Activated Carbon Trap, and the part that contains the Germkill kit. The Microfiber Mesh has a removable cover on it. Inside the cover, there is a foldable pictorial instruction set and a plastic bottle. The box also contains an instruction manual.

Design and features

Unilever Pureit Water Purifier

Unilever Pureit Water Purifier is a 23-liter water filter system. It is slim and tall (about 2 feet) but compact and neat in design. Because of its compact and slim structure, you will probably be able to fit it anywhere in your kitchen or dining space no matter how small it is. Pureit blends in with the existing decor.

Assembling the parts is easy and does not even require you to read the user manual. However, the user manual may come handy if you do not like to spend time thinking which part goes where.

The Germkill kit life-indicators look like pressable buttons. But once you look close, you will see that they are there just for showing the status of the Germkill Kit. They do not do anything except for showing and instructing you when to replace the Germkill Kit. Germkill Kit’s actual life indicator is located beneath those buttons. You can have a  clearer look at it by removing the cover. Initially, the life-indicator is white meaning that it is full of life. It will slowly turn red from top to bottom as you will consume water from this filter. The life indicator gives you the signal when to change the Germkill kit and ensure that you never run out of pure drinking water.

Unilever Pureit Water PurifierBeing a nonelectrical device, Unilever Pureit Water Purifier requires no plumbing. After bringing it to your home, you need to assemble different parts (shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes), place it on a level surface, and pour water into it through the Microfiber Mesh. The Mesh filters visible dirt, and other substances from supply water.

Unilever Pureit Water Purifier can purify typically 1500 liters of tap or groundwater ‘As Safe as Boiled Water’ without replacing any component that it uses for its multistage purification system. Pureit Classic’s Germkill Kit features an auto switch-off technology so you do not accidentally drink unsafe water. This is an extremely important feature of this Water Purifier.

The Pureit Water Purifier meets stringent international criteria of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), USA, for removal of harmful virus & bacteria.

Performance

Unilever Pureit water purifier does purify water to the level as safe as boiled water. The water is odorless when you drink it. However, when you pour water into a jug from the Pureit purifier, an odor of chlorine can be smelled for a couple of seconds especially when the Germkill Kit is very new. The water tastes better than boiled water. It tastes natural.

The first time you pour tap or groundwater into Pureit, it will take about an hour to produce safe drinking water. But after that, you should be prepared to pour water while there is an amount of safe water stored in Pureit. This way you never run out of drinking water.

Unilever Pureit Water PurifierThe tap that comes pre-fitted with Pureit Classic does not challenge your patience. Water pours at a good speed, and it fills a two-liter jar or bottle in just about 25 to 45 seconds depending on how much of the safe water storage (9 liters) of Pureit is filled. If the water storage is almost empty, it will take more than two minutes to fill a two-liter jar. We wished Unilever supplied some cap for the tap so we could use that at night. This would have prevented bugs from getting to the mouth of the tap.

Unilever Pureit Water PurifierOnce the Unilever Pureit water purifier produces 1500 liters of safe drinking water, the Germkill Kit indicator starts to get red. The indicator tells you when to buy or replace the Germkill kit. The Germkill Kit should be available in the store from which you buy Pureit water purifier. Replacing the Germkill Kit is not difficult either.

When new, the Microfiber Mesh will pass water at an excellent speed, almost momentarily. Over time, it gets filled up with dirt and other objects that it filters from tap or groundwater. It will take about 3 to 5 minutes to pass only a liter of water through it. When this happens, you need to clean or replace it.

ProsCons

Easy to remove and attach the Germkill kit.The Microfiber Mesh gets blocked with visible dirt in water after some time of use. It needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. The Tap doesn’t have a cap.
