Performance

Naxa NCA-683 Single Din Car Stereo’s CD tray opens and closes smoothly without any noise. The CD player could even read old CDs with scratches without a delay. We prefer to use the head unit and speakers of the same brand. In this case, we used, NAXA NCS-769 6×9″ 6-way car speaker and the music output was clear with deep bass and high fidelity. The music didn’t distort even when we turned the volume to highest. However, since Naxa NCA-683 can only deliver 4×40 watts of maximum power, so it was a little bit less loud than 200 watts car stereos. Yet, it produced enough sound that we could clearly hear the music 30 feet away from the car while the car windows were closed.

We also played songs from SD card, flash drive, and from the portable mp3 player via the Aux-in port. In all cases, NAXA NCA-683 performed well. The music output distorted for heavy metal tracks when the volume was set at 85 or above. There was hardly any interruption or break in Radio signal. Songs didn’t skip while playing from a CD.

ProsCons
Nice radio reception. Clear sound, decent bass, high fidelity; Music playable via CDR/CDRW, MP3, USB, SD card, portable devices through Aux-in. Song information display. Bass and treble control. Nice remote control.Output distorts when the volume is set above 85%, especially when a heavy metal track is played.

Conclusion

Naxa NCA-683 Single Din Car Stereo comes with an attractive design and some appealing features for a $40 head unit. Though it is loud enough, music output gets distorted when the volume is set over 85%. In our experience, it would beat some of the $80 car stereos available on the market. It outputs clear sound with decent bass and high fidelity. We highly recommend Naxa NCA-683.
