Where to buy
Not many Tablet PCs feature the latest Android OS, the Jelly Bean, and are available for less than $100. The D2Pad D2-721 features Jelly Bean OS and is available for as low as $90. It features a front camera, Wi-Fi, and SD Card input. It does not come with Google play, but it comes equipped with 1mobile, and Amazon App Store; plus, it comes preloaded with lots of useful apps and entertaining games such as Temple run 2, Jetpack Joyride, Angry Birds Seasons, and so on.
D2Pad D2-721-WH comes in a nice box with illustrated features and diagram of different ports and soft buttons. The box contains the D2Pad D2-721-WH 7-inch tablet PC, an adapter, a micro USB cable, and user manual.
Our expectation was but little about the design and build of the inexpensive Jelly Bean Tablet, the D2Pad D2-721. But as we unboxed, we found D2-721 to have a strong body that felt durable and looked nice. D2Pad D2-721 is available in four colors, Black, White, Pink, and Blue. We had the White to review in our Lab.
The D2-721 has only one camera, which is 0.3 MP. The camera is located on its front to let you enjoy full screen video chatting experience. The ports are located on its left side. It has the Power button, mic, micro SD card slot, micro USB 2.0 port, 3.5mm headphone input, DC-5V input, and a reset switch located on its left panel. The speakers are located on the back surface of D2-721. There are no other buttons or ports on D2-721.
D2-721 sports the Rockchip 2928 1.2 GHz single core CPU that features Mali-400 GPU. It comes with 1 GB DDR3 RAM and 4 GB Nand Flash storage. The built-in Wi-Fi cheap supports 802.11b/g/n networks. The 7-inch capacitive touch screen supports multitouch and has a resolution of 800×600, giving you the aspect ratio of 4:3.
We powered on D2-721. It boot up in seconds. The screen was bright by default but it seemed to reflect what was in front the screen. So, the first thing we did was – increased the brightness. It solved our problem. The Jelly Bean Android OS looked nice on the 4:3 screen. The soft buttons (Back button, Home button, Volume Up, and Volume Down etc.) located on the bottom left of the screen seemed too tiny at first, but we soon got used to it.
The D2-721 screen was not so sensitive to touch initially. But seemingly it grew accustomed with our touches. After using it for about 5 minutes, the screen became nicely responsive to our touches. We could zoom in and out using two fingers. The G-Sensor worked perfectly and fast. We decided to play some games that can test the real ability of a tablet. We played Temple Run 2, which comes preloaded with D2Pad D2-721. The gaming experience was great. We could collect the coins by slightly tilting the tab a little left or right. The swiping worked perfectly when we needed to turn. The in-game visual was great and the speed at which the game ran was fast.
The Wi-Fi reception was good if not great. We made a Skype call and were able to speak, listen and enjoy the full screen video of ourselves without any lag or trouble. The other end however complained about the surrounding noise on our part. It was due to the static produced by loosely connected 3.5mm headphone jack. As we fixed it there was no more complains. The camera resolution was decent, but the brightness was good.
The only problem we found was with the battery life. It seemed to run out of juice pretty fast. We kept the Wi-Fi on, played games such as Temple Run 2, Jetpack Joyride, watched YouTube Videos, and downloaded a few apps. The battery last for 3.0 hours after being fully charged.
The D2Pad is great for pastime entertainment, video chatting, and social networking. It is reasonably fast, can run latest games and apps. It feels durable. The white D2Pad looks nice too. If the battery life were a little better, we would have given it a 3.5 Star rating. You might also like our post on Latest Tablets under $100.
